Ambassador of India to Lebanon

Mr. Muhammad Noor Rahman Sheikh, a career Diplomat, joined as Ambassador of India in 02 August 2023. Before joining the Mission, he served as Joint Secretary (Economic Diplomacy) from 2021-23 and Director (Economic Diplomacy) from 2020-21 in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi and handled a wide range of matters pertaining to Commercial Law, Arbitration, Trade, Investment, Energy Security Matters, I2U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) Group, Food Security matters, Civil Aviation, Tourism, International Solar Alliance (ISA), Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), Social Security Agreements, Bilateral Investment Treaties, United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), etc. He was also the head of the Depository of the ISA.

In his earlier assignments, he served as Consul General of India, in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) from 2016-20, First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of India, New York from 2015-16, Deputy Consul General/Consul Haj at CGI, Jeddah from 2012-15, Third Secretary/Second Secretary at the Embassy of India, Amman (Jordan) from 2006-09. As Under Secretary (WANA) from 2009-12, he handled India’s bilateral relations with Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Middle East Peace Process, Arab League.

Mr. Sheikh has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Political Science from Hindu College, University of Delhi and MBA (Finance) from IGNOU, Delhi. He had attended executive programs at Elliot School of International Affairs, George Washington University, USA & Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA.

He is married to Dr. Nazneen Rahman, MBBS and they have four children - two daughters, Naima & Sarah and two sons, Abdullah & Mishaal.
